Several
years ago, Richard "Dick" Porter (former plant manager of a L'eggs
hosiery mill in Florence, South Carolina and retired senior vice
president of Sarah Lee Corporation) attended a workshop in which Glenn
Bannerman talked about using recycled materials for low- or no-cost
recreation. The workshop encouraged people to use their imagination and
creativity to dream up fun and challenging activities.
The following year, Dick brought a box of waste nylon hose from
his hosiery plant and challenged Glenn and his class to come up with
ways to use the surplus hose. On
that day a new and exciting avenue of recreation was born.
Glenn and his family started inventing games, play equipment,
movement and dance exercises, and decorations using the hose.
Each time the hose were introduced at an event, more people found
new innovations. We now are able
to offer both a video and book that will explain the many ways you can
take advantage of this great and inexpensive, recreation resource.
